Long life battery for emergency lighting

A sustainable choice: Long Life batteries

Climate change. Loss of biodiversity. Resource depletion. The biggest problems on our planet we cannot solve with well-meant attempts or big words. It is necessary that we reduce our energy consumption and avoid waste. HBI is here to help. HBI uses sustainable long-life batteries for emergency lighting with a life span of up to 12 years, the newest battery technology of Panasonic. This results, among other things, in fewer necessary replacements and lower maintenance costs.

The new batteries are more resistant against low and high temperatures. They have more overcapacity and are better at retaining their energy. This all results in a decrease in energy consumption, more safety and a longer life-span.

Long-life batteries fit into the principles of a sustainable, circular economy. Circular is not only about recycling, after all, but also about reducing the amount of waste by using products efficiently and optimally, for a long period of time. Repairing instead of replacing. Long-life batteries are useful for the wireless management of emergency lighting. With minimum effort the administrator can know precisely when a battery really needs replacement.

The advantages of HBI’s long-life batteries:

  • Long lifespan of 10 years at an ambient temperature between -20°C and +25°C for the luminaire.
  • From 1 April 2020: 5 years of warranty for luminaires and battery packs. 10 years of warranty for luminaires and battery packs with wireless control, according to our terms and conditions.
  • Less energy consumption because of smart intermittent charging.
  • Operating temperature range between -20°C en +75°C of the batteries.
  • Very suitable for sustainable and durable options with wireless control
  • Also suitable for replacing ordinary NiCd battery packs in emergency lighting luminaires.
“Because of the enormous life span of the luminaires and batteries, the maintenance costs are much more manageable for housing corporations” John de Koning , Manager Onderhoud, Wonen Zuid

Installation tips for a sustainable use of luminaires.

In order to use your luminaires as long and efficiently as possible, these installation tips are recommended:

  • Make use of light and movement sensors as much as possible. The average temperature in the luminaire will decrease, which will benefit the lifespan of the batteries and the electronics. Besides, it will decrease energy costs.
  • Keep the emergency lighting on low level. Connect escape route indicators only to  L1 / N and the luminaires will burn on low level (20%). That’s beyond sufficient to properly light the icon and it consumes less energy.
  • Implement where possible a lower lighting level. The new generation of electronics enables the adjustment of lighting levels through dipswitch-settings. The human eye can barely notice the difference between a light burning at 100% or 80%, or maybe even 60% or 40% is safe and comfortable enough for the lighting of hallways and staircases in your building? The less energy a luminaire consumes, the lower the temperatures in the luminaire, which increases the life span of the batteries and electronics.
